Evangelism Report – From the DRC

It would have been easy to simply stop evangelistic efforts with the government restrictions but the Jesus film teams in Goma decided that people still needed to hear the good news.    Early in the morning leaders picked up bull horns or connected just a battery, a microphone, and the amplifier and began to share the good news from the street corners. 

People still in their homes could hear messages of hope and encouragement.  One lady who is in her 70’s took this ministry to heart.  She grabbed her bull horn and preached on the corners day in and day out for weeks.  Her words of encouragement have become a testimony to many in her neighborhood who have found peace in the midst of the storm.

In the south eastern corner of the DRC near Lubumbashi, Rev. Celestine Chishibandji continues to reach out to remote areas like Kasumbalesa.  There they have opened a church just in the last three months with the faithful work of the teams.  As they go out they share information about the Corona Virus, sometimes handing out face masks but also talking about the hope we have in Christ. 

Just this past week this new church plant celebrated both new baptisms and the Lord’s Supper.  God is still impacting lives through the ministry of evangelism and oral discipleship as stories about the life of Jesus are shared in the local languages with small groups of people living in close proximity and searching for the truth.
